This picture shows a typical setup of hanafuda cards for the game of koikoi, on top a red zabuton with a peony pattern. This set-up is called "te hachi ba hachi" - 8 cards in the hand, 8 cards in the field. The hanafuda pictured are homemade and based on a modified set of hanafuda graphics made by Louie Mantia, Jr., of which the originals are available here.
